PUBLISHING SERVICES
~A Must Read for Songwriters~
Stone Tablet Studio Productions is a Music Publishing Company, along with a song licensing site. It is important that every songwriter understands what the Publisher's job is. As a publisher, we license songs, so that we can promote them, and do the administrative work involved with all songs in our catalog. We are not like most publishers, who own the entire catalog of a songwriter. We only publish one song at a time, so the songwriter controls how many songs in their catalog they would like to submit. Each song we publish will be represented on this site in our Song Search with keywords, which in turn is attached to the Song Vault.
What a Publisher does is publish songs! We will promote (publish) your song, collect royalties on your song, and represent you with the legal services offered to us by the Harry Fox Agency, and BMI (Broadcast Music). In return, we receive 20% of the publishing royalties. This means that you, as the Songwriter, still own 100% of the Songwriters Royalty, and another 80% of the Publishing Royalties. Think of the percentage breakdown as a circle. One half of the circle is the Songwriters, and one half of the circle the Publishers. Stone Tablet splits the half of the circle which is the Publishers. You still retain half the publishing, along with all of the songwriting, because it is your song!
You will be paid directly from BMI for the Songwriters Royalties, and directly from us for the Publisher's Royalty. The Publishers Royalty includes all royalties from the Harry Fox Agency, and from Broadcast Music for the publishers share. Stone Tablet will follow up on the payments for all types of radio and satellite airplay, along with the mechanical royalties from physical CD's, and all forms of downloadable music.
As your publisher, we offer two very important types of licenses; the 'License For Use', and 'Mechanical License'. Here at this site, we offer the License For Use License - License for any artist, group, or solo act wishing to perform your song "live" onstage, and in the public eye. This license is important, because most artists will eventually put the songs they perform "live" on a physical format, known as a CD, or DVD.
In the event the licensee wishes to put the song they have licensed with us into a physical format, the artist will then have to get the second license through the Harry Fox Agency, known as the Mechanical License - A license to put a song on a CD/DVD, and/or to use to sell as units, or downloads. All songwriters we represent will have their songs ready to license with the Harry Fox Agency, and BMI within 24 hours of their submission.
So let's get started. Below are the steps you must follow in order to begin submitting songs to us. Following them carefully, and you will have a good understanding how our system works.
